To say I was nervous for this session would be an understatement. When I was in high school, Boosie’s mom Amie was the popular senior photographer at my school. Most of my friends got their photos done by her and pretty much everyone at my school (and our rival high school) knew who she was. I was a no body in the scheme of her life but she went out of her way to know my name and talk to me like I was a friend. She made everyone feel seen and known more than anyone I had ever met. Amie was a light and someone I wanted to be just like. In the summer of 2019 (around the time I started photography), Amie tragically passed away, shocking the entire community. There truly wasn’t one person in our community that she didn’t impact. About a year after her passing, as I grew my business and moved into the high school senior crowd, I knew that I wanted to make people feel the way that Amie made me feel – seen and known. I knew that I may not be able to fill her shoes, but I promised to do my best to love like Amie.
I knew that this season for Boosie was going to be a hard one. Her whole life she knew that her mama was the one who would take her senior photos. She wasn’t even entirely sure that she wanted to get photos done but somehow I convinced her to get in front of my camera. I have never been so excited but so nervous for a session before. I knew that there would be a lot of weight on this day. Boosie and her sisters pulled up to our location and once we were together, my nerves instantly vanished. The session was heavy but in the most fun way possible. Together we made some magic and Amie was smiling down on us the entire time, I could feel it.
As Amie’s sister-in-law this was so moving. Love like Amie is my everyday goal as well and I want to thank you for understanding the subject and bringing out her beauty in every photo. Grateful for everyone who keeps Amie’s spirit alive!
