My Heart Behind Community

Working with other photographers is something that is so dang important to me. Wether that’s one on one, small groups, or larger groups, there’s something about being together that just sets my heart on fire. There’s been a little bit of a debate amongst photographers in my area about content days/workshops/styled shoots. I’ve heard people say that they set unrealistic expectations of the wedding and photography industries, they do not properly equip photographers to shoot real weddings or take on real clients (I do agree with this statement but I don’t think photographers believe that they’re gaining real wedding experience from these events), and that working with groups of other photographers leaves attendees feeling inadequate or less than another. These arguments, in my opinion, do not hold any weight against COMMUNITY BUILDING. I feel so strongly about connection and community in all aspects of my life. I believe that we are not meant to do this life alone and photography is an industry that is spent 90% alone, in your office, editing, emailing, blogging, marketing, etc.

I started taking photos in September of 2019 and did not know a single thing. With the help of some friends in the industry, I was able to learn, find online resources, mentors, and workshops that I would not have had if I did it on my own. I worked my booty off learning and growing. Thousands of dollars spend on education and tools (not to mention super expensive gear) to be where I am today. All that being said, I did not grow to where I am today without the help of other people who were willing to teach me. I attended a few content days/workshops and saw the community building aspects and KNEW that was something I wanted to continue to be a part of. I have made so many industry friends and people who I know are going to be by my side, encourage me, and help me when I need it! I also know that I have never left a time when working with another photographer where I didn’t learn something or take away something that adds value to me or my business. I believe that you can never stop learning, there’s no point in anyone’s photography journey when you feel like you know it all. Learning is a journey with no destination! I know that others have poured into me and I want to be able to pour into others.
